Philips Lighting (Euronext: LIGHT), the global leader in lighting, today announced its intention to change its designation from Philips Lighting to Signify. The choice of this new name had its origin in the fact that light became an intelligent language, connecting people and conveying meanings and sensations.
The company will continue to use the Philips brand, the world's most reliable lighting brand, under the existing licensing agreement with Royal Philips.

Philips Lighting originated more than 125 years ago with the business created by Frederik and Gerard Philips in 1891 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Throughout its history, the company has been at the forefront of many of the major advances in the lighting industry. Today, the company is a world leader in the conventional, LED and connected lighting industries, offering the largest global network of connected lights.
The new company name fulfills the contractual requirements under the Company Name License Agreement established with Royal Philips, which requires the company to change its name less than 18 months after Royal Philips no longer has a controlling stake.
Taking into account the change in the name of the company, a proposal to change the articles of the association to Philips Lighting NV will be submitted to the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, which will be held on May 15 The ticker of the Philips Lighting NV Stock Exchange will remain equal (Euronext: LIGHT).
